Shrusti Amula, a prominent Indian American activist, speaker, and National K-12 Food Rescue Student Leader, embarked on her journey of activism at just 12 years old when she devised and executed a composting initiative that that was then adopted by her state for use in schools. She is the visionary behind the Rise N Shine Foundation, a youth-led nonprofit committed to solving the nation's two major issues - food waste and hunger. Her outstanding contributions have garnered her prestigious awards, including the, L'Oréal Paris Women of Worth, Environment Crisis Hero by Flags For Our Heroes , Gloria Barron Prize For Young Heroes, Hormel Foods 10 under 20 Food Hero, The George H.W.Bush Points of Light Awards 2023 Inspiration Spotlights, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, Climate & Energy Leadership award, and accolades as a Women Making History by the Montgomery County Commission for Women and Montgomery Women. Notably, she has been honored with the EPA's - President's Environmental Youth Award Winner, President's Gold Volunteer Service Award and the Governor's Youth Service Award. Her national, award-winning, youth-led nonprofit organization has secured numerous grants and corporate sponsorships, furthering its impactful work. Shrusti has received multiple Citations and Proclamations from her State, and County for her remarkable contributions. Currently, she collaborates with the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group and students in Utah, Texas, New Hampshire, California, and Idaho to promote composting and food recovery programs nationwide. Additionally, she is a trained Indian classical Bharatnatyam Dancer and a national-level Cricket player.
